Built the right way, by hand, for riders who expect their tack to work as hard as they do.

SMT Premium Leather Water Loops are made from American cowhide sourced from a small U.S. tannery, then cut, finished, and assembled in our Oregon shop. We use precision laser cutting for consistent sizing and clean edges, followed by hands-on finishing to ensure long-term durability and a refined, functional look.

Each set is hand dyed for deep, even color that penetrates the hide rather than sitting on the surface. The edges are carefully beveled and burnished to create a smooth, sealed finish that resists wear and fraying. The fold area is lightly conditioned to keep the leather supple where it flexes most, helping prevent cracking and extend the life of the water loop. A protective top finish is applied to guard against moisture and everyday use while maintaining a natural leather feel.

We also make the ties that secure the water loops, which we hand cut from American Horween latigo hide. These ties are cut from dense backbone latigo and tested for strength.

Designed for use with rope reins, these water loops break in naturally over time and develop character without compromising strength or reliability. Clean craftsmanship, quality materials, and made-to-last construction—this is the standard at Spotted M Tack.
